About the series

This series of paintings captures my personal journey, reflecting on cherished moments from my childhood that bring me joy when I reminisce. Each artwork revolves around a specific theme from my past, something that holds significant meaning or that I often ponder upon. These paintings serve as a way for me to preserve these precious memories that gradually fade away over time.

While I'm at a stage in my life where I eagerly anticipate buying a house, starting a family, and pursuing my career, I believe it's important to occasionally look back and appreciate the accomplishments and experiences that have shaped me. These paintings embody a sense of spontaneity and freedom, reminiscent of the carefree nature of childhood itself. They are a fusion of various emotions, woven together into a single image, much like a collage.

About this work

This painting captures the essence of "Summer in Ostend." It portrays a collection of memories associated with this theme. Included are visuals like my baby blue Pennyboard, which I transformed by spray-painting it black, representing my personal touch.

It also reflects my complex relationship with seagulls, a mix of love and frustration. The painting showcases my beloved bike, a symbol of freedom during the sunny months, alongside the vast ocean and the distinctive red art structures that line the embankment.

These combined visuals form my personal recollection of the summer in Ostend. The colors used hold significance as well, with their vibrant and playful nature reflecting the emotions tied to these memories. The painting exudes energy, reminiscent of the lively atmosphere I experienced during the summer season.
