The final year of my high school journey coincided with my last year in Oostende, my cherished hometown. Anticipating my move to Aalter, I was determined to bid a meaningful farewell. Reflecting on what mattered to me, I couldn't ignore the gradual disappearance of Oostende's Belle Epoque buildings.
Driven by a sense of loss, I initiated a campaign against their demolition. I couldn't bear to see such architectural marvels replaced by modern structures. Oostende, with its rich history and charm, deserved better.
My campaign aimed to showcase the beauty of these buildings through guided walks around the city. Each step would reveal a piece of Oostende's heritage, preserved in illustrations along the route. The campaign's emblem, an old Belle Epoque building sheltered within a mussel shell, symbolized protection and a connection to the sea. It was a testament to our commitment to safeguarding Oostende's cultural legacy.
